Achievement Orientation

Thinking about a difficult task you were required to undertake, what extra effort did you exert to achieve the goals set and accomplish a task?

There is no short cut to achievement. Life requires thorough preparation – veneer isn’t worth anything.

Usually the extra effort I put into my projects besides the daily trade offs like sleeping in, sacrificing social life and entertainment, is to research the task/project I am working on.

I find google scholars a great source of knowledge to research on and read about topics relevant to my task. During the 1st year I have been also introduced to other academic resources and magazines like Elsevier, Springer, Mendeley and more. Additionally, I found also extra useful the University online library where one can find relevant books on the field of studies.

If I have to come up with an example, I will use my very first report for the University where I had to write a report on the Algorithms, Sorting and Searching & Complexity of Algorithms and, Number Systems & Assembly Language.

Throughout the research for my report I tapped upon different sources like some online posts from the professor Marek Kowalkiewicz to understand the history of algorithms, some pieces from David Turner the creator of the SASL programming language back in 1975 to understand the sieve of Eratosthenes.

I have also read about the ENIAC the first programmable general-purpose computer from the Britannica encyclopedia and also The Bernoulli Numbers: A brief primer from Nathaniel’s Larson paper from 2019 to better understand the Ada’s Lovelace contribution to the computer science history and the first algorithm that could produce Bernoulli numbers.
